CONTENDER PROGRAMME
The National Police Community Trust working in Partnership with Al-Madina Mosque and the Inspire Programme

Sunday 24 February 2019 saw the launch of our innovative Contender project. Working in partnership with Al-Madina Mosque and the Inspire Programme, Contender provides a taster session to our unique non contact boxing programme, accredited training and health, safety and well-being education.

The project which is supported by the National Lottery has trained 5 young people to England Boxing Level 1 Coach and will be delivered to over 100 young people (including an all female course) during the spring.

Non contact boxing focuses upon skills, health, fitness, self discipline and personal esteem while our education input considers personal safety, community and well being. A key aspect of the programme is the exit strategy which involves signposting and referral to support each young person build upon their experience of the programme.
DIVERT PROGRAMME
The National Police Community Trust is proud to announce that we are now are preferred partner to the Divert programme.

Divert is a unique police custody programme designed for 18-25 year olds to promote pathways to education, apprenticeships, employment and to stop re-offending.

An 18-25 year old who has been taken into custody will be approached by a Divert trained volunteer to identify their interests and skills for employment. They are informed that Divert along with its strategic partners may help them achieve their passion and goal.

Once released from custody the youth will be re-contacted by a Divert facilitator advising of educational, training and employment opportunities being offered by the key strategic partners.

The progress of each youth is monitored through the programme and mentoring is also provided where necessary.

Divert has been running in the London Borough of Brixton with outstanding results, and is being extended to Tower Hamlets later this year.

Having been introduced to the ‘DIVERT’ Programme in 2018 by our Patron Martin Hewitt QPM, Assistant Commissioner, Chairman of the National Police Chief’s Council, we met with Wilf Pickles of the New Era Foundation: www.newearfoundation.uk which delivers ‘DIVERT’. Wilf’s enthusiasm was infectious and we readily took up the offer to work with the programme.

Working alongside the Football Association and The Police Community Clubs of Great Britain [PCCGB] the Trust now been named as a preferred provider to ‘DIVERT’ of Olympic Boxing and bespoke Citizenship programmes.
